UFC 249 means Khabib vs. Ferguson, an upcoming mixed martial arts event that is produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which has been planned to take place on April 18, 2020, at the Barclays Center. However, Barclays Center is a multi-purpose indoor host in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. This arena is also the home to the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. It is considered as one of the home arenas for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. This arena is also considered to be a host of concerts, conventions, and other sporting entertainment events.
Barclays Center was conceived by a real estate developer named Forest City Ratner Companies, which is owned by Bruce Ratner. Ratner acquired the New Jersey Nets basketball team in 2004 for $300 million to shift them to Brooklyn. This move had significantly marked the return of major league sports to Brooklyn, which had been absent since 1957 with the departure of the Dodgers to Los Angeles.
One of the renowned architect firms called SHoP Architects designed the Barclays Center. However, Ellerbe Becket/AECOM served as the Project Architect of record. Frank Gehry designed initially; the whose proposed concept was to make a rooftop park ringed by an outdoor running track also capable of doubling as an ice-skating rink in winter with panoramic along with year-round views of Manhattan. However, the notable architect’s tallest tower Miss Brooklyn at 620 feet was also included in the plan. Gehry’s plans estimated a projected cost of $1 billion. Forest City Ratner unveiled a scaled-back version of the project by reducing the Miss Brooklyn’s size 40%. After that, they cut it 109 feet (33 m) shorter in February 2008. Another redesign unveiled immediately after two months later, scrapped Miss Brooklyn entirely, and the developer started “value engineering” the arena design by cutting its budget even more in January 2009.
